when the queen visited Farrah's toffee Harrogate in 1998

Hello again!   The Harrogate Lifestyle team are all following the news about the coronation this May for King Charles III and we are excited to share what Harrogate has to offer on what is sure to be a weekend full of national celebration!

Our collective thoughts have been and are still very much with The Royal Family after the loss of Queen Elizabeth II last September. The country has felt a strange void without her constant presence. From serving in the second world war and seeing in the first man on the moon, to making history in 2013 by changing the succession to throne act to include the first born of any gender, I am sure all of us can agree how grateful we are for her Majesty's unwavering service to our country over her lifetime. As our longest reigning monarch, the Queen is all most of us have ever known. She has been an aspiring and succession public figure so it still feels a strange adjustment to many and a very deep loss. The coronation of King Charles III will hopefully bring a period of much needed joy and celebration for the whole world who are still mourning the loss of such an important and treasured person in our history.

Many of us have had the pleasure over the years of watching HRH Prince Charles learn his role and support her late Majesty the Queen in her duties to the crown and our country. We watched HRH become a father, then a Grandfather and now we will watch him become our King. It is all very exciting! He and his children have been actively out in the public eye, taking on royal responsibilities to create and maintain relationships with many of our foreign allied countries and have even been known to enjoy a Yorkshire show or two! HRH has been preparing for this role his whole life and we know he will make his late Mother very proud.

Where will you choose to watch the celebrations in London from? If your lucky enough to be staying with us in Harrogate, and need some ideas, here is our top picks!

The iconic front lawn leading to #BuckinghamPalacegates in London
My "where were you when it all happened" favourite pick has to be Rudding Park. The team at Rudding are hosting an afternoon celebration lunch with champagne on the terrace of The Clocktower restaurant! The lawns and gardens in the background make for a fantastic backdrop while in view of the big screen where you can see it all as it happens. Wowza!

My choice for families and community feel would be the Valley Gardens in Harrogate only a few minutes short walk from our front door. They are hosting an absolutely packed 3 day event over the coronation weekend! With a big screen showing the coronation footage and all the events around London, followed by family films in the evenings. There will be entertainment for the kids with rides and circus acts, simply pack a picnic, bring some blankets and get comfy on the grass together!

My absolute favourite choice - and probably what I will be doing for the coronation celebrations, would be to sit out on the West Park stray and take advantage of the ales on offer at Three's a Crowd while the whole town celebrate around the town! You will be able to hear the Trinity church bells on Leeds road ringing out from this flat and spacious area of beautiful, protected grassland. If you wanted to carry the celebrations into the evening and bless our new king with a prayer, St Wilfred’s Church on Duchy Road are having a Festival Mass for the Coronation followed by a barbecue supper. They are selling tickets for this at £15 to include both a welcome drink and food.

For those enjoying the floral show season and the spring flowers in bloom on display, there will be flowers in the shape of the coronation crown on display at the Market Cross in Knaresborough until May 13th.
